Chamber Arts at Calvary Church

Veterans Day Program and Art Exhibition

Friday, November 11, 2011, 7 PM

Building on the energy of last year's experience, this program will again convey a tapestry of recited poetry and chamber music—all in honor of American veterans.  Following the music/poetry portion of the evening will be a unique interactive "living art" opportunity in Hannaford Hall organized by Sam Hollingsworth, Shared History: Conversations with Veterans.  Amid various art and memorabilia, Herbert Heilbrun (WWII B-17 bomber pilot) and John Leahr (WWII Tuskegee Airman) will converse with attendees.  Because of the military's racial segregation during World War II, Heilbrun and Leahr never met on the ground, although they flew together over Europe in separate planes.  After over 50 years, the men finally met in person, and the story of their remarkable friendship has been featured on NBC Nightly News, A&E, and many other forums.  Click here to download a printable flyer.
